Taipei, October 30, 2026 – Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group or SRE) today announced that the foundation design for its Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Project (Formosa 4) has received a Statement of Compliance from a globally accredited third-party certification body, confirming that the design complies with applicable international and local standards and meets project-specific requirements. Reaching this milestone lays a sound basis for relevant fabrication, transportation and installation, and, in time, the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the wind farm.
Formosa 4 will stand 18 to 20 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli, in waters 57 to 64 meters deep, conditions that make foundation design and fabrication demanding. The project will use three-legged jacket foundations. On average, each jacket stands 91 meters tall, spans up to 35 meters at its base, and weighs about 2,500 tons. The pin piles that anchor each jacket to the seabed are themselves 80 to 101 meters long. Designed to address the site’s specific conditions, the foundations are among the largest of their kind in the offshore wind industry.
The verification was conducted by DNV, which independently reviewed the design against site-specific conditions, including metocean data, seabed geology, and environmental loads. It confirmed that the support structures comply with the applicable standards and are structurally capable of withstanding the typhoons, earthquakes, and wave forces of the Taiwan Strait. The verification provides further assurance of the project’s technical robustness, risk management, and safety standards, supporting subsequent fabrication.
The Formosa 4 team said: “Formosa 4 continues to be developed and built in accordance with the highest international safety standards. Receiving the Statement of Compliance marks an important milestone in the project’s verification process. We will now press ahead with fabrication and subsequent construction, working towards the next milestone.”
Formosa 4 was awarded 495MW in the first auction round of Taiwan’s Phase 3 Zonal Development in 2022 and obtained its establishment permit in late 2024. The project is expected to be completed and connected to the grid in 2028, supplying renewable electricity and contributing to Taiwan’s energy transition.
